3d Reconstruction of External Anatomical Structures Using Computer Vision

چکیده
This paper presents a volumetric approach for image-based three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of external anatomical structures. This has been a major research topic in Computer Vision. However, it is still a complex problem to solve, when automation, speed and precision are required or when the objects involved present complex topologies or strict photo characteristics. Our work is based on Generalized Voxel Coloring (GVC) method, a volumetric approach based on photo-consistency criteria. GVC does not impose any restriction on the objects’ shapes or in the motion of involved. Two experimental objects, with different topologies, were considered: a hand and a human torso models. Our main goal was to build 3D models with good quality and photorealistic appearance.

Building External Anatomical Structures from Images Using a Single Off-the-shelf Camera
Three-dimensional (3D) geometric reconstruction and characterization of the human body from bidimensional (2D) images has been a major research topic in Computer Vision. However, it is still a complex problem to solve, when automation, speed and precision are required. Volumetric based methods are a recent and successful solution for 3D structures reconstruction from images. In this work, using...
متن کامل3D Object Reconstruction using Computer Vision: Reconstruction and Characterization Applications for External Human Anatomical Structures
This PhD project belongs to the Computer Vision domain, more specifically, to the area of Three-Dimensional (3D) Vision. The 3D information of the surrounding environment perceived by human eyes is one of the most important kinds of information offered by sight. Thus, a large effort has been developed by the scientific community throughout time in the development of methods that make possible t...
متن کامل3-D computed tomography reconstruction: another tool to teach anatomy in the veterinary colleges
This letter underpins the use of three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) reconstruction as an aid to teach veterinary anatomy. Cases were presented to students in order to observe normal and clinically abnormal patients. The images provided excellent details of relevant structures and could serve as a tool for teaching anatomy. Many sources describe different options to enhance anatomical...
متن کامل3D Reconstruction of Anatomical Structures from Endoscopic Images
Endoscopy is attracting increasing attention for its role in minimally invasive, computer-assisted and tele-surgery. Analyzing images from endoscopes to obtain meaningful information about anatomical structures such as their 3D shapes, deformations and appearances, is crucial to such surgical applications. However, 3D reconstruction of bones from endoscopic images is challenging due to the smal...
متن کاملBronchial tree modeling and 3D reconstruction
Providing an in-vivo and non-invasive tool for 3D reconstruction of anatomical tree structures (vascular networks and bronchial tree) from 2D or pseudo-3D data acquisition remains today a key and challenging issue for computer vision in medical imaging. In this paper, we address this issue within the specific framework of airways. Our contribution consists of a realistic 3D modeling of the bron...
